A Brevstock Reflection

It was an overwhelming task to pull off  so far the biggest event of Brevstock bands@war...with almost
0 budget to start off with. How to pay everything we needed was certainly something to be anxious about...nevertheless, what can we be afraid of when it is the inspiration of the Lord that compels us to continue with the mission?

During the time when I was beginning to doubt especially with regards to our financial capacity, the Lord spoke to my heart and asked me, "What is more difficult?  To raise funds or to walk on water?"  That moment, I believed He was in control.  OUR WAYS ARE DIFFERENT FROM HIS.  All I had to do was to follow and to have a faith at least that of a mustard seed. His Words, "do not be afraid," continued to  echo in my head.  It was such a consolation and a source of inner peace. I believed that more miracles were about to happen.

When we are given a Divinely inspired mission, we are called to focus on Him...walk on water...and be not afraid.  It is not about what we are capable of but what HE CAN DO.  And beyond every little circumstance and activity, He tells us to DUC IN ALTUM (put out into the deep Luke 5:4) so we may fully understand what He really wants of us.

The Lord is truly gracious.  Despite our unworthiness and sinfulness, He gives us the grace to still serve Him and express our love for Him.  I praise the good Lord for such an amazing opportunity to serve Him through the youth and to BRing EVery Soul to Him, our Christ the King.

Thank You, Lord for the opportunity to celebrate the visit our Your Vicar, Pope Francis, here on earth through Brevstock.  Thank You for the angels you have sent us to assist us in our needs.  Thank You for prayer warriors.  Thank  You for Your chosen Brevs to answer Your call to serve.  Thank you for just being there every little step we make.

Lord, there are more to come...but we trust in Your mercy and just give us the grace to persevere so we may continuously answer Your call to serve ...for as long as You will.

TO ALL OUR BREVSTOCKERS, CONGRATULATIONS!!!  SEE YOU SOON!!!  UP NEXT... BREVIARIAN BIG TENT FESTIVAL 16.

Epiphany's Star

I came across this video REAL STAR OF BETHLEHEM and it left me overwhelmed by the love of God for all of us.  Personally, the visit of the Wise Men which seemed like a mere bedtime story narrated symbolically turned out to be an actual history - part of our Salvation History.

Hope you find time to watch and be affirmed by God's love.

May the wisemen's example of perseverance and commitment in seeking and waiting for the the coming of the Messiah be instilled in our hearts.  The Lord is always reaching out to us.  He would always make the first move.  So when we begin to search and be after His own heart, grace readily flows in to enlighten and strengthen our faith.

A very happy new year and HAPPY EPIPHANY!

Ascension Sunday Message (email from Brev Lookie)

I want to share brev Lookie's (my brother) Ascension Day message with you...

A blessed Sunday to all Brevs!

Fall in love with God as we pray the Breviary (Liturgy of the Hours).

Today we remember how Jesus was taken up to Heaven before the eyes of
His disciples. He leaves them with the mission, "Go then, to all
disciples everywhere and make them my disciples: baptize them in the
name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to
obey everything I have commanded you." (Mt. 28:19-20a). This mission
was passed on to us as we accepted the role of being God's disciples.

As Brevs, we reach out to all people to let them know of God's love
and mercy thru our services and way of life. Whether we like it or
not, we have been tasked to make disciples of every person we meet.
How? By the way we live our life and by the way we speak. There's no
need to go out in the middle of the streets shouting God's message. We
can do it in our own simple ways. We can do it by how we do our work,
how we deal with our friends, how we relate with our families, how we
forgive those who have wronged us and how we reach out with those who
are in need.

St. Therese of Lisieux did it in her own simple ways. Look at how she
became a saint because of her so called "little ways". In her quest
for sanctity, she believed that it was not necessary to accomplish
heroic acts, or "great deeds", in order to attain holiness and to
express her love of God. She wrote,

"Love proves itself by deeds, so how am I to show my love? Great
deeds are forbidden me. The only way I can prove my love is by
scattering flowers and these flowers are every little sacrifice, every
glance and word, and the doing of the least actions for love."

Simply live a good life and others will follow. Remember always that
doing God's mission is attainable. It can be done by all. The great
thing is God has equipped us with the necessary tools to do His work,
through your talents, attitude and virtues.

Live a blessed life and never forget your best weapon. Prayers!

God bless everyone!

Breviarianly yours,
brev LooKie

FILLING IN THE NEED – A Higher Calling

By declaring and claiming the identity of being a Breviarian means acquiring the duty of being soldiers of Christ.  As a Brev, we are responding to a higher calling of filling in the needs of our dear Mother Church.  This higher calling has a special vow attached to it – availability (thanks bro.A!).  It does not mean however that you are always physically present, but that availability to go the extra mile in answering to a particular call in the most creative way possible you can think of or inspired to do.  It may sound difficult, but saying "Yes" to God gives you a special anointing to carry out a task He requires of us.  We could make many excuses of turning our backs to a  call, but when God chooses you, that means there is no other person who can do the way you are capable of doing.  Question is:  Can He count on you?

"Filling in the Need" may have become a cliché in our community but let us be reminded that this is one of the primary reasons why we existed and are still existing.  God continues to call us because the work He has for us is not done yet.  Rest is in heaven.  God has given us this special grace to recognize a unique path to sainthood – making each moment of our lives a DIVINE APPOINTMENT...a priority above all as we have to PUT HIM FIRST in everything.  [M.O.B.] – Make good Or make room But don't make excuses!

When we took the name Brevs, it did not only mean we are to be active Catholics.  It called us to be REAL sons and daughters of the Father.  And if we have the faith that the Holy Spirit moves in our lives, then we are expected to do more than the ordinary...because we can....because He chose us.

Maybe we do have our own wills and personal plans, but God gives us more than we can understand.  So when God calls, are we willing to obey and make His plans our own?  Can we say, "READY" like Abraham?  Can we leave our nets IMMEDIATELY like Peter?  Are we willing to follow Him in any road and to obey at any cost?  Or are we like those who were willing to follow but had to take care of some matters before being ready?  Because He was not part of our current schedule?  What is our priority? Let us be reminded that in the end, our relationship with God matters most.

We are indeed challenged to prove our love to God.  Is He still number one in our lives?  With all the things we do in our lives, at the end of the day, can we say we were working according to His holy will?  Or were we just relying on our own understanding and putting all human efforts to do something successfully, leaving no space for Him to work with us? Let us not forget that He is our partner; not merely a Master.  The balance in our lives can only happen if we have Him outweigh every aspect of our lives.

The task is most of the time toilsome, yet it is full of His loving surprises.  There is no specific perfect time when to respond to God's call of love as each moment of our lives is GOD'S APPOINTED TIME.  We may feel unworthy, we may feel small, we may think we may be emotionally compromised...we may make the biggest mistakes  or even become everyone's heartaches...but never fail to trust in His mercy for He will see us through because He alone knows what each of us can do.

We have our motto:  Nothing but the Best for God!  Oh yes, in everything we have to prepare ourselves like real soldiers and just wait until the Lord has in need of us. That's the way DAVID prepared himself.  He was young and was just a shepherd boy, but he was anointed and had great faith in God.  When the battle was set before him, he recognized the call and responded bravely and immediately because he knew that God was on his side and while he took pleasure on His blessings, he wanted to prove God that He could also count on him.  The victory was not that he defeated Goliath.  It was more of being there when THE appointed time came for him for God's glory to manifest.

So you see, we don't wait until the storm has passed or if we are ready, healed or perfect or "pag may time," before we start serving or loving God.  We don't wait for the others to change or to go first before we respond.  Again, it is between you and God.  Our READY YES is more than enough for His grace to overflow and use us in His own unique way.  He meets us where we are.  And for those of us who think that we have given our best and have responded to a call in the past, be reminded that while we carry the name BREVIARIANS, the call of making a difference in this world to make manifest the glory of God never ends as long as we can breathe.

You are called...you are anointed...you are chosen.  Once a Brev always a Brev.

                HAPPY EASTER!  Brev It On!

A New Year...A New Chapter...A New Life...

When we were kids, I remember Mark, my baby brother, imitating almost everything I did.  When I displayed my drawings on our refrigerator, the following day you would see the same picture posted beside it drawn by him.  When I started painting and had my works included in our school’s exhibits, later on he excelled by winning poster making contests.  When I finally made my own signature, I saw him practicing his signature that looked almost the same as mine (he took out the “R” and replaced the signature with “M”).  I loved dancing and made it my hobby for quite some time and never thought he’d be able to outgrow his stiff moves...yet years later, he became a choreographer and turned out to be a very graceful dancer.  I learned to play two instruments and somehow discovered I could sing; but my brother can play more instruments and I consider him as one of the musical geniuses of this generation.  I took up commerce and he successfully made it as a CPA.  I dreamed of a lifetime spiritual partner...while he prayed for a lifetime partner and met his soul mate.  I planned of getting married and HE GOT MARRIED!

Haha!  Don’t get me wrong here...I am actually the proudest sister on this universe.  My baby brother is now a man I believe God is so pleased to have made.  When he asked me two years ago if he could marry, I honestly didn’t know how to answer sincerely.  It made me cry whenever I thought of it ever since.  Because it meant letting go of my baby brother who is my best friend, my knight, and my favourite brother in the whole wide world (does that count? Hehe!)!  I would always tell people, I can let go of anybody except my brother.  However, seeing him grow to be a wonderful person who always does nothing but the best for God and always putting Him first than anybody else, I no longer have to play as a protective sister always worrying what will become of him in the future.  I have seen that Jesus resides in him and I trust that his future will be so bright.

As he starts a new chapter of his life, I am hoping that more people will be inspired by his examples.  Discovering his state of life was not an easy choice for him as well.  Discerning for the right vocation, dealing with the ups and downs of relationships, facing the challenges in our family purified him all these years into becoming what he is right now.  The blessing that the Lord bestowed upon him recently is just amazing – Sacrament of Matrimony.  This sacrament will truly make him steps closer to God as he has a partner to be with on his journey.

To his wife, Aya, I praise God for making her part of our family.  She is one of the most genuine friends I have.  I am glad to have her as an official sister.  I can be at peace now knowing that somebody will be there to take good care of my brother and to support him in his ongoing mission of BRinging EVery Soul TO Christ the King.  May they be examples to all those who are discerning on their state of life and a model to those who are starting a family.

To the newlyweds, congratulations!  My blessings and prayers will always be with you...I LOVE YOU.  Brev it up!
